Welcome back to Air Fryer Bro, and today we will be putting our air fryer through an interesting cooking test!! I love baked Camembert as an appetizer, and used to cook it a lot when I had a regular oven. Recently, I have been wondering how this dish would turn out when cooked in an air fryer? Of course, I HAD to try it pretty much as soon as the idea entered my head! Here are my results!
Before we start the fun, I would like to say that I used a Philips Turbostar air fryer for the making of this article 🙂 You may get slightly different results depending on the air fryer model you have. This should be ‘slight variations’ rather than ‘radical differences’ though!
Can you make baked Camembert in an air fryer?
Something that has become incredibly popular in the past decade or two is baking Camembert cheese and using it as a dip. But how will it turn out in an air fryer?
The only issue I faced was finding a container that the Camembert would fit into snuggly and stop it from oozing all over my air fryers cooking compartment. Finding an air fryer safe dish of that size was pretty futile in my household, so I had to come up with something else.
That something else was using aluminum foil to wrap around the cheese and hold it in place. I wasn’t sure if it would be strong enough to hold oozing cheese, but seemed my only option.
If you want the top of your Camembert crispy and golden brown, be sure not to cover the top of the cheese, but use the tinfoil to make a lip around it so that it doesn’t have a chance to ooze out 🙂
So I put my carefulIy wrapped Camembert in the air fryer basket and cooked for 15 minutes at 170 degrees Celsius (338 Fahrenheit), to make sure the cheese was fully melted all the way through.
And don’t bother to preheat your air fryer either, as this kitchen appliance has almost instant heat, anyway. Preheating, it is just like throwing money down the drain (in my opinion).
What was the end result after all this?
Frankly, the end result was exactly what I would have expected from my experiences with the oven cooked version. The foil held everything in place and the cheese was fully melted and yummy throughout. The top also had a nice golden brown color to it too! No need for cooking spray here!
So it’s a clear YES, you can cook baked Camembert in the air fryer and it turns out to be a quick and simple recipe. Just be sure to wrap it well with aluminum foil or use an air fryer safe container to keep all that cheese goo in one place!
I would highly recommend enjoying this appetizer with a glass of your favorite red wine too! And whatever you like to dip in it. We enjoyed dipping carrot wedges in ours, but you can pretty much put anything in there that goes with cheese…..crackers, thinly sliced bread or toast… you name it!! I am actually thinking of making an appetizer tray next time and adding some stuffed mushrooms and jalapenos to the mix. Now THAT would be awesome!
The major benefit of cooking baked Camembert in the air fryer is how quick it cooks! Not only is the cook time faster, but it saves you having to heat up a whole oven just to melt a small round of cheese 🙂
I am sure the Air Fryer Bro household will be making this way too much in the coming months! And this experiment leads me to wonder what air fryer baked brie or even goat’s cheese would turn out like!!
